Applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency as part of the admission process. You may be required to take the TOEFL iBT if you earned your undergraduate or graduate degree outside the United States to ensure your ability to communicate and teach in English. Exemptions You are exempt from taking the TOEFL iBT if you meet one of the following criteria: You have completed at least an undergraduate or graduate degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States. You have earned an undergraduate or graduate degree from an institution outside the United States, and English is the official language of instruction. The State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) provides a list of approved countries in 19 TAC §230.11(b)(5)(B). TOEFL iBT Score Requirements If you do not qualify for an exemption, you must submit official verification of a minimum scaled score that meets the High-Intermediate level in each section of the TOEFL iBT.
